
Kickboxing was developed from Muay Thai by Japanese boxer Osamu Noguchi on 1959. Osamu bring Muay Thai to teach Japanese in Japan and mix some movement from Karate and Judo into his style and called “Muay Kick†or “Kickboxing†for easy understand.
Kickboxing rules almost similar to Muay Thai. Although Most of movement is still the same but some movements is come from Karate and Judo.
Kickboxing may look dangerous more than Muay Thai because Kickboxing is mixed martial arts science while Muay Thai is sport developed from defense arts. Most dangerous moves was cut out from Muay Thai rules to safe fighters because Many fighter was killed from original Muay Boran in the past. Many of them are also heavy injuries after fights. Muay or Muay Boran is too dangerous for sport.
How Kickboxing different from Muay Thai?
1. No Rum Muay or Respect to the teacher but in Muay Thai it’s very important because.
1.1 Thais believe they will safe when fight, Muay Thai teacher will help to protect you.
1.2 Wai Kru help about concentration. Fighter have time to concentrate themselves before fight)
1.3 Rum Muay Movements is very useful. It’s come from Muay Boran Moves. We can see competitor weakness while Rum Muay.
2. No Thai Music while fight. (It’s Not Muay Thai so Music isn’t necessary.)
3. Interval takes one minute only.
4. Kickboxing use Point system.
The rules of Kickboxing was developed to K1 Kickboxing in 1993. (No elbows and neck wrestling.) and it’s spread through Australia, Europe and North America later.
