Talking about the history of Muay Thai, it is not possible not to mention “Amulets”. It’s always been a part of Muay Thai boxers’ lives. They think these amulets will help them succeed in anything. And when they are not using it, these respected items have to be kept in a really suitable place, for example, next to the Buddha image or stature.
But that was all in the past. Since now we all live in a modern lifestyle. Some of the beliefs have been forgotten or ignored. But that doesn’t mean that Thai boxing fighters do not believe in all those superstitions anymore. It’s still in their heart. As long as you still see Wai Khru ritual performed, belief in amulets does still matter.
You might have already seen a few of the amulets used in Muay Thai or by Muay Thai boxers. These two things are still used as a Muay Thai boxing outfit. The first is Mongkol or the headband and the other is Prajied or armbands worn around the upper-arms. These two are used today in Muay Thai’s Wai Khru Ritual before any Muay Thai fight.
Muay Thai Head band Mong kol : Boran (Traditional style)
Muay thai Boran arm band : Ancient style (2 pieces)
The others that are not the outfit are still carried by the boxers before he enters the ring but have to be taken of before the fight starts which are Buddha images (small ones) or Tagrut (made of bronze of silver) and a few others.
