Muay Thai Music

You all know by now that prior to any Muay Thai fight, there has to be a Wai Khru Rutual performed by the both fighters. And along that you will hear a music played accompanied the Wai Khru and that is Muay Thai Music. The music is referred to Wong Pee Klong (woodwind instruments and drums band). It is played by only 4 musicians, each of whom has their own instrument to play.

The Thai instruments used to perform Muay Thai music are Pee Java (similar to oboe), 2 Glong Kaek, and a Ching (Thai cymbals).

Muay Thai is one of only few sports that have music played along. Not only during Wai Khru ritual, but also during the fight. They have different songs for different occasions. When the boxers are in the moment of Wai Kru, the song used is slow and has the mood of the ritual. But when in fight, the tempo is quicker adding excitement to everyone who is cheering Muay Thai around the ring. I have to admit that the music does make watching Muay Thai even more FUN!
